Ed White Elementary SchoolThuy Le-Thai

Our guest speakers this week were from Ed White Elementary School in Sharpstown: Principal Thuy Le-Thai, Assistant Principal Paulette Caston and Social Worker Lara Hulin. They brought us "up to speed" on what has been happening at Ed White over the past years.

  • Ed White Elementary School has been declared an HISD Exemplary School each year since 2008
  • 89% of the school's 800 students come from low social economic families
  • 65% of the students and considered English as a second language students
  • 90% pass tests for math, reading and writing
  • The school has 98% of the students with perfect attendance

The numbers above are definite indicators of a superior school made that way through a cooperative effort on the part of the administrations, the teachers, the students and the student's families.

The club has undertaken a review of how we may help the students of this special Sharpstown school. Stay tuned for more on this in the near future. The club may also arrange for a visit ot the campus as a special group event...let Delores or Jon King know if you would be interested in such an outing.

Guests, Visitors & Other Good News

Also visiting with us this week was Ralph Head. Ralph is the Pastor of a new church starting up in the Sharpstown area. He is very civic oriented, and has done volunteer work at Ed White Elementary School. Ralph had seen our website and the visit by the staff from Ed White Elementary caused him to come "check us out." Come again Ralph...soon!
