The Governor's Annual VisitGovernor Ed Charlesworth

This was the annual formal visit to our club by the District Governor Ed Charlesworth and his lovely wife Robin accompanied the governor. The governor touched on a number of areas where he hopes all the district clubs will participate in showing that "The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands". Some of these areas included:

Membership

Individual Rotary clubs belong to Rotary International. Individual members, or Rotarians, belong to a club. The club is where most of Rotarians' meaningful service work is carried out. Clubs can be engaged not only in their communities, but also internationally. Rotary International is also present in most social networking sites. What Rotarians get out of Rotary depends largely on what they put into it.

Service Projects

Club members were encouraged to participate in the club's service projects since they directly impact our community. Local service projects are one hands-on way to show that Rotarians really do give back to the community through service.

The Rotary Foundation & Polio Plus

End Polio NowAfter 20 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease, but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all. It is a window of opportunity of historic proportions.

Your contribution will help Rotary raise $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $555 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families.

As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world, children everywhere remain at risk. The stakes are that high.

1 Million Meals for Honduras

Governor Ed also challenged the district's clubs to help him achieve the goal of distributing 1 Million meals to the excelptionally poor in Honduras. Let's take on the Governor's challenge to feed 1,000,000 meals to those in extreme poverty in Honduras. The meals are less than $.04 per meal. CLICK HERE to learn more.
