Paul Harris Fellows Honored

This week we honored the club's newest Paul Harris Fellows by presenting them with their Paul Harris Fellowship certificate, pin and medallion. Those so honored were Bola Stephen, Wayne Staton, Karen Blakeman and our Community Service Honoree Margaret Mitchell. Sara Stephen, Bola Stephen’s new daughter also was made a Paul Harris Fellow with her mom accepting on her behalf.

A Paul Harris Fellow is someone who has donated or had donated in their name at least $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation. It is these donations are what fund all the works of the Foundation and the Rotary District around the world.  You can learn more about the Rotary Foundation here.

Guests, Visitors and Other Good News

We were loaded with guests this week. What a thrill! Delores Delsing had Luba Nesterova with her for the third time. Ken Burgess introduced Jim Miller from Freedom Automotive Service who came to "check us out." Favour Adedayo joined us again for the third time and she announced that she is considering relocating to California. We all wish her well. Arif Saleem presented Joe Trevino to the club. Joe is one of Saleem's business associates.

Arif also brought in three more of the Polio Plus donation cans...full to the brim. We hope they are as full as the first can he brought in...that one had $175.00 in it.

Ken Marsh announced that Mentors of Hope at Lee High School will be gearing up for the new school year and the program is in need of additional mentors. Interested...or want to learn more? Call Ken and 832-368-4434.

Ken Burgess did a brief presentation on the Aztec Empire Boxing Gym. This is a facility that works with low income kids to build discipline, self esteem and a love of physical health. The program also helps keep the kids off the streets and out of the gang scene. As with many worthwhile organizations the gym is experiencing cash flow issues. Ken asked that the club members help out with a small donation. The hat was passed and the club cut a check for $151.00 to the gym. Thanks guys and gals!

Club Social, This Saturday, August 29th

Kegg LogoThe next Club Social is this Saturday, August 29th. All those wishing to indulge a sweet tooth will gather at 4:30 PM at Kegg's Candy Chocolate Factory & Retail Store located at 8168-A Westpark Drive, Houston, Texas 77063. We will have a tour of the factory to see how they make all that terrible tasting stuff. If you think you might wish to buy some candy it is suggested you bring an ice chest complete with ice...since Houston's weather is not a friendly one for candy.

Following the factory tour and shopping spree, we will adjourn to Pier 61 on Murphy road for a dutch-treat evening of fine seafood and camaraderie. Those who cannot make the candy factory tour may join the dinner group. We should arrive at Pier 61 between 6 and 6:30 PM. Jeff will have an area reserved for our group.

If you have not yet given Ken Burgess or Jeff Novy your RSVP please Email Jeff or Email Ken by Thursday morning.
