Don't Let Fire Start!Inspector Brown

Inspector Gene Brown from the Houston Fire Department was our guest speaker this week. His presentation dealt mostly with fire prevention. Many of the points he talked about we all know...but do occasionally need to be reminded of:

  • Do have smoke alarms; test them monthly and replace the battery twice a year.
  • Never leave cooking unattended.
  • Never use water on a grease fire.
  • Check electrical cords for cuts, cracks or frayed wires - replace if you find anything.
  • Keep paint, varnishes, and other flammables in sealed, airtight containers.
  • Develop a plan - PLAN a fire exit strategy...and practice it.
  • If you have a fire at home or work, exit the building and THEN call 911.

Guests Visitors & Other Good News

Karen Blakeman re-introduced us to her daughter Calli Toussaint. Calli has kind of grown up with our Rotary Club and has assisted during our Basketball Tournaments in years past. Jeff Novy introduced Marcus Brigance, a past member of the club. Marcus dropped out of active membership a number of years ago due to the time demands of owning and operating several Subway franchises. Y'all come back...hear?
