Your Hospital District
What do you have if you include two general hospitals, a geriatric nursing unit, an Inpatient Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Unit, 12 community health centers, 8 school based clinics, a dental center, 5 mobile health clinics and 13 homeless shelter clinics? You have the Harris County Hospital District.
Carolyn Oddo, Vice President of Patient and Public Affairs for the HCHD joined us this week to educate the group about THEIR hospital district. Since the hospital district is a political subdivision of Harris County and is governed by a Board appointed by the County Commissioners, the district belongs to the residents of Harris County.
In 2008 the Harris County Hospital District had:
40,052 hospital admissions (adult & pediatric)
10,048 babies delivered
147,188 emergency room visits
861,954 outpatient visits
With a tax base of $480.5 million, during 2008 the HCHD was able to provide $845.5 million in charity care.
