Our guest presenters this week were from METRO. Vincent Sanders gave us a brief look at the history of METRO from horse-drawn trolley to today's METRO RAIL "Train Down Main". And the plans for expansion of the light rail portion of the system include lines to the Uptown area, the University of Houston area, to the Hillcroft Transit Center, out to the Northline Mall area, the East End and a number of other extension plans still under study.

Vincent had assistance from his associates Donna Lane and Joe Garcia. The concept of METRO's expansion to help relieve the congestion on Houston's roadways is of great interest to everyone and there were a lot of questions.

The light rail line from Fannin near 610 to U of H Downtown has already proven a favorite and is exceeding the planned ridership levels. It is a great way for those on jury duty to reach downtown without the hassles of driving and parking in the heart of the city.

Guests, Visitors & Other Good News

This week we were pleased to welcome visiting Rotarians Robin Charlesworth (wife of our incoming Distrit Governor and W.M. Von-Maczewski from the Richmond Club. Robin also had with her Richard Charlesworth who is a potential Rotarian with a new club being formed.

Robin and Richard along with Delores Delsing and Bill Landers had a trip the a YES Academy campus set after the meeting. We can look forward to hearing more on that visit soon.

Bola Stephen has returnded from another trip to Nigeria. She displayed a T-Shirt for a new program she helped put into place in Nigeria...a bank that will offer micro-loans to help kick-start small businesses in teh area. Way to go Bola! She also got a chorus of "Happy Birthday" since it was her "time". Then at the end of the week she is off the Dallas for the President Elect Trains Seminar. Talk about a busy lady!
