Decisions...Decisions...Decisions!
Dr. Errol Wirasinghe was our guest speaker this week and he reminded us that there are ways in which we can make better decisions.
True, no one knowingly makes a “bad” decision. Even a person with no training in decision-making believes that he/she made the best possible decision. But we often hear phrases such as, “we made a good decision”, “it was a bad decision”, etc. Note that the terms “good” and “bad” are attached to the past tense. This is because we have to wait for the outcome before we can pronounce success or failure. At the time we make a decision, there is no way of saying if we made a good decision!
The quality of your decision will depend on the following:
Data & Information (problem domain)
Context Information
Creative options
Solution technique used, and
Expertise of the decision-maker
And the outcome will depend on the following:
Appropriate Timing
Adequate Resource
Commitment to Execution, and
Changing Circumstances/Environment
You can learn more at Errol's website, and you are encouraged to read his book. I have...and it is very good. I am now re-reading it now to remind myself of what I should be doing.
Guests, Visitors and Other Good News
This week we were delighted to welcome back Eric Bolten from the Boy Scouts. Eric is working with JErry Hobby from our club and Donna Woytkins of Communities in Schools to rejuvenate teh Interact Club at Sharpstown High School.
Bill Landers introduced his guest, Maria Quintero, who is with MHMRA. Maria was with us at last year's Wine Tasting Dinner. We hope she will become a regular with the club.
Bola Stephen has returned from her latest journey back to Nigeria. She visited one of the Rotary Clubs there and brought back a club pennant for our collection. Glad to have you home again Bola!
The Cookie Momster (Karen Blakeman) was with us, along with a ton of cookies. The Girl Scouts must have a special place in their honoree list for Karen...she sells almost as many cookies as Sara Lee.
The Wine Tasting and Silent Auction
The special fund raiser was a success...and we thank all of the 48 people who attended. Although some came late or were unexpected...it appears that everyone had a good time.
Treasurer Archie is still crunching the numbers...and we should have those shortly.

Remember that fear always lurks behind perfectionism. Confronting your fears and allowing yourself the right to be human can, paradoxically, make you a far happier and more productive person. Dr. David M. Burns
