What The Heck Got Us Here!?!?!
Faisal Kahn, a Financial Advisor with UBS Financial Services and Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston, spoke with us this week about the current world economic situation and how we got here.
Faisal gave a history to the mortgage and financial industries noting the changes that took place in those industries over the 20th and 21st Centuries. He talked about the securitization of financial obligations such as mortgages. He also discussed the changes in the risk tolerance levels that were acceptable by such oganizations as Fannie Mae and Feddy Mac and the changes that took place in the large brokerage and banking firms. All of the things which led to a finncial "house of cards" when the economy began to slow.
He admitted that nobody knows how well the recovery act that the Congress has passed will work. But Faisal is pretty bullish on the U.S. economy in the longer run.

We were delighted to welcome back our Assistant Governor Craig Wooten, a member of the Bellaire/Southwest Houston Rotary Club, visiting with us this week. Craig also gave Archie reservation for two at the Wine Tasting Dinner...AND...he brought us an auction item: a bottle of wine in a beutiful wooden presentation box. Way to go Craig!
Our resident Cookie Momster, Karen Blakeman, handed out the first round of Girl Scout Cookies. If you still need to order...better talk to Karen soon!
Wayne Staton was all grins this week. (so what else is new?) He is off on a trip to Singapore to visit family there. Did you hear that music in the background? Kind of like an old Crosby/Hope movie theme!
